Sunday morning my daughter asked me to “mamacaroni and cheese” for breakfast. So of course I wasnt making macaroni for breakfast. We had cheese omelets, sausage and home fried potatoes instead.
My family was determined to have macaroni and cheese at some point that day because my husband came downstairs asking what I planned to make for dinner and suggested I make Macaroni and Cheese instead of rice to go alone with the Chuck Roast I had marinating.
So I sent my husband to the grocery store to get cheese and ingredients to make granola. He of course came home with that and everything else he saw. Thank goodness it was all things that we needed and no junk food.
I made the infamous Macaroni and Cheese, Roast and Steamed Cabbage. Dinner was well recieved. Kennedy only wanted to eat Macaroni. ..nothing else.
So here is the recipe for my Old Fashioned Baked Macaroni and Cheese… hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Ingredients
- 2.5 lbs Cheddar Cheese (or combination of cheese of your choice)
- 1 lbs Elbow Macaroni
- 2 Eggs
- 2 ½ Cup Milk
- 1 tbs Yellow Mustard
- 1 ½ tsp Garlic Powder
- ½ tsp Onion Powder
- ¼ tsp Salt
Instructions
- Prepare macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain but do not rinse the macaroni. In a 9 x13" baking dish, mix macaroni and 3/4 of the cheese together. In a separate bowl, combine eggs, milk, mustard and spices. Whisk together until frothy on the top. Pour custard mix over the macaroni and cheese mixture. Sprinkle remaining cheese on the top and cover in foil. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 45 mins. Remove foil and bake for another 15 or 20 minutes until bubbly and slightly golden on top.
